The South girls defeated the North girls in the first game of the 2008 high school Senior All-Star night at Rancho Bernardo High School. KBCsports.com was there from beginning to end, broadcasting all the festivities live.
The game, which featured a three-point contest at halftime, was a close, up-and-down style affair that set the bar high for the boys. Coaches for both squads made substitutions in teams of five and all players were able to get into the game to showcase their goods. La Jolla Country Day guard Dominique Connors earned KBCsports.com Player of the Game honors for her performance.
At 5’10”, Escondido’s Peter Smith was the second smallest player at the 2008 San Diego Boys Senior All-Star Game at Rancho Bernardo High School. Ironically, he had the biggest impact on the game.
“I felt like the rim was the size of an ocean,” said North All-Star Smith, following a 108-93 victory, which was broadcast live on KBCSports.com.
Smith drowned the South All-Stars with 25 points, including a handful of three pointers in the second half.
River Ridge senior Courtney Blume was afraid that Ellensburg would win the WIAA 2A girls basketball title on the final possesion. Then she realized she could do something about it.
"I was really scared," Blume said. "Then all of a sudden, I saw the ball and grabbed and held on for dear life."
Blume came up with the steal that sealed the 43-42 win for the Hawks and clinched their second straight state championship in a game broadcast live on KBCsports.com from the Tacoma Dome.
Blume, the KBCsports.com Player of the Game, also said the victory was special for the seniors as it was their 100th varsity win together. She also backed up her claim that the state tournament was the "River Ridge Invitational."
