11.17.07 - Tara Arolla - CA

Field HockeyThe La Costa Canyon Mavericks are Division I Field Hockey champions for the third straight season and you can probably annoint them a dynasty, winning four titles in the past five years. The 2007 championship was a hard fought 3-1 victory over the San Pasqual Eagles. LCC was led by KBCsports.com player of the game Tara Arolla. The senior scored two goals and used her frenetic and aggressive style of play to lead her squad back from 1-0 first half deficit. San Pasqual's lone goal came off the stick of senior Ursula Lopez-Palm who popped the ball into the cage with just one second remaining in the second quarter. The Mavericks would not be denied the three-peat as they totally shutdown San Pasqual in the second half and scored three unanswered goals to capture the title. La Costa Canyon won the championship without the aid of their best player as senior Lauren Greenwald was forced to sit out the title game with a severe ankle sprain. San Pasqual ends its magical season with an impressive 18-2 record with both losses coming at the hands of the Mavericks. LCC ends the 2007 campaign with a 22-1 record.

11.17.07 - Ashley Kyle - CA

Field Hockey The Scripps Ranch Falcons returned to the CIF winners circle for the first time in three years as they win the Division II Field Hockey Championship with a 4-2 overtime victory over Serra. The Falcons were lead by KBCsports.com player of the game Ashley Kyle who popped 2 goals into the cage, the last score coming in the overtime period. The junior stick handler scored her initial goal midway thru the second half, knotting up the score at 2-2, eventually forcing the overtime. Serra jumped on the scoreboard first in the contest when Emily McLaughlin scored with less than two minutes expired in the game, and the Conquistadors would hold a 2-1 lead at the break thanks to a Chelsea Burton goal ten minutes before intermission. In the overtime frame, Scripps jumped on the scoreboard first when Deanna Kennedy squeezed a shot into the cage to give the Falcons a lead for good. The Division II champion Falcons finish their spectacular season with a 21-4 record.
